Web designers are a very creative lot. We at Digital Engine Software have nothing but respect for web designers but their job is very different from ours. Dynamic websites are composed of two parts: The front-end design and back-end code. Front-end design is often done with html, CSS and flash and is used primarily to make the site look nice and usable. For websites that are not interactive front-end design is all that is required for a fully-functional site. Front-end design is where web designers really excel and who you should contact if you are concerned about site aesthetics.

Back-end code is a completely different animal. Web languages have come a long way in the last decade and nearly everything that can be done on the computer can be done online. We specialize in the back-end code. We create the databases, forms, calculations and analysis that provide the interactive web experience that has seen a dramatic upswing in recent years. If you want to accept payments, do scheduling or offer any of your services online we are the people you should talk to. Many web designers offer back-end coding services as well as their front-end design work. Saying designers are capable of back-end code development, while technically true, is like saying that we are capable of front-end design. Certainly we can throw together a logo and site template but it won’t be anywhere near the quality of a dedicated graphic designer.
